Camellia sinensis var assamica
$30.00
I’m very lucky to have this plant from a cutting given to me by Colonel Tom Durrant at least 40 years ago when he was actively importing Camellias from many countries. Black Tea comes from the larger leafed Camellia sinensis variety assamica, grown in Assam, NE India where it originated. Picked shoots are crushed to initiate fermentation, hence the black colour of the dried leaves. Tea is the most popular drink in the world after water. Endless variations have been developed by adding other flavours to the tea leaves. 2m
